Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect with the testing?
The first visit is a time for both you and your therapist to meet and decide if working together would be the best option for you. During this visit, your therapist will ask what brings you in for an assessment. You two will decide on questions to answer with the testing and then an outline for the testing will be agreed upon. We usually like to meet once a week for about two hours. We have found that the testing is much less draining for you and allows time between each session to learn from the tests as much as possible.
After the initial visit, we will have an interview session. This is where you will be asked questions about your childhood, your family, your relationship history, your career, etc. in order to get a broader picture of who you are. From there we will have our testing sessions, and the tests will be chosen based on your needs and questions. After the testing sessions, we will meet to discuss the results and see how they “fit” with your experiences. A letter will be sent out to you that answers each of your questions. You will then have the option of coming in after about five to six weeks, so we can review the questions and test results, and we can help you determine where to go from there, i.e., therapy, changes in school, etc.
What can I expect with therapy?
It is very common to wonder what happens in a counseling session. The short answer is that you will determine what happens in session as the focus is on you, your questions, and your concerns. We will work together to determine what difficulties you are struggling with and develop a plan to tackle those issues. We will set goals for what you want to accomplish with your time in therapy. My role is to guide you in your path of self-discovery and to recognize your strengths and resources. We will also discuss any thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns that seem to be interfering with your ability to live the life you want. Assignments to complete on your own are often given, which we will discuss and explore more during sessions.
How often we meet will be determined by your concerns and circumstances. Typically, therapy begins with one session every week; however, frequency of sessions can be increased or decreased by the needs of the client and the goals of treatment. Any changes in frequency can be discussed with your therapist.
Is it confidential?
Generally speaking, the information provided by and to you as the client during the assessment sessions is legally confidential. Since the information is legally confidential, your therapist cannot be forced to disclose any of your information without your consent. Information disclosed to your therapist is privileged communication and cannot be disclosed in any court of competent jurisdiction in the State of Colorado without the consent of the person to whom the testimony sought relates. There are exceptions to the general rule of legal confidentiality, which will be discussed with you during your first session.
What forms of payment are accepted at Testing in Progress, LLC?
Checks, cash, and money orders are currently being accepted. We also accept credit card payments by clicking here for special circumstances; however, there is a service charge for credit card payment processing.
We currently accept Cigna Behavioral Health Insurance. We do not directly bill through any other insurance carrier or medical plan; however, an itemized statement can be provided to you at the end of each month which can be used to initiate the reimbursement process privately, if you so choose. An itemized statement can also be provided to you at the end of each month for your financial records.
How much will the testing or therapy cost?
All sessions are billed at $125 based on a 50 minute clinical hour.
The final cost for testing will vary depending on the complexity of the referral questions. After the initial interview, we can quote a fee for the entire assessment including interviews, testing sessions, test scoring and interpretations, written reports/letters, and feedback/discussion sessions. We ask that half of the fee is paid at the first testing session, at the beginning of the assessment, and the balance paid at the last meeting, our discussion session. Typically, we can be fairly accurate in our estimate of the fee for the assessment once we complete the initial session.
If you are court-ordered for an evaluation, please view the Offense-Specific Evals page or contact Dr. Guerra to determine the cost of the evaluation.
A discounted rate may be available based on your circumstances. Feel free to speak with your therapist about this.
